Activist Group Profiles
Animal rights groups have increasingly turned their focus to agriculture, utilizing misleading undercover videos and multi-million dollar political campaigns in an effort to drive farmers and ranchers out of business. The following report compiled by Alliance staff profiles the key animal activist groups that are actively fighting against animal agriculture. July 16, 2012 - The Alliance sent the following letter to Dan Bane, the CEO & President of Trader Joe's, after learning the company is the lastest target of an extreme activist groups campaign which is promoting misconceptions about antibiotic use on farms. More.

Bank of America Partners with HSUS
Click here for a full timeline of the Alliances outreach to Bank of America. The Alliance is reconsidering its relationship with the company because it will not end its partnership with HSUS.

June 27, 2012, the Alliance received this email response from the Bank of America following a phone conversation with Alliance CEO Kay Johnson Smith.

June 18, 2012 - The Alliance reached out to Bank of America President Brian Moynihan after learning of the bank's promise to provide financial support and promotion of HSUS through their new Visa Cash Rewards credit card. More.

May 29, 2012 - The Alliance sent the following letter to Marilyn Ducksworth, the Senior Vice President of the Peguin Group, after learning the company gave $25,000 to HSUS. The Alliance encourages others to share this information with their communities and local businesses. More.

Deceptive Videos Unfairly Attack Farmers
December 15, 2010 - Farmers and ranchers dedicate their lives to the health and well-being of their animals in order to ensure that the food they produce for the public- and their own families- is wholesome and safe. Extremist Group Attempts to Capitalize on Pepsi's Generosity
November 23, 2010 - The Animal Agriculture Alliance was dismayed to learn that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has been deemed eligible to compete to win $250,000 in the online Pepsi Refresh Project in November 2010. August 16, 2010 - Animal agriculture was under attack at the Animal Rights 2010 Conference and the Humane Society of the United States-hosted Taking Action for Animals, two of the nation's largest animal rights events. Both meetings were held in Washington, D.C. during July 2010. More.

Extreme Caution Urged in Hiring Practices
June 21, 2010 - The Animal Agriculture Alliance urges farm managers to be watchful for a number of individuals who have been found responsible for some of the latest undercover activist videos released to the media and public in the past year.  The Alliance recommends that all producers ensure high standards of animal welfare by following approved industry guidelines. Operators should also review their hiring practices, train employees on proper animal handling according to company policy, and hold all workers accountable for their actions. More.

Alliance Reaches Out to Jordan Vineyard & Winery
June 1, 2010
The Alliance sent the following letter to John Jordan, the President of Jordan Vineyard & Winery, after learning that the company planned to host a fund raising gala for the Humane Society of the United States. The Alliance's Executive Vice President spoke with Jordan on June 1, 2010. Jordan showed great understanding of the importance of animal agriculture and volunteered to consult the Alliance before hosting an animal-related event in the future. He stated that HSUS has agreed that all funds garnered during the winery's one-time event would go towards hands-on cat and dog care programs. CNN "Downer Pigs" Report Influenced by Activists
December 15, 2009
CNN aired two segments that featured undated video from the Humane Society of the United States' (HSUS) campaign against "downer pigs." The reporters, Nicole Lapin and Jane Velez-Mitchell, were openly critical of animal agriculture, calling farms "horrific and barbaric," and encouraging viewers to donate to HSUS and Farm Sanctuary. Both reporters have been honored by HSUS in the past, and Velez-Mitchell has cited PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk as one of her personal heroes. HSUS Launched Dishonest "Animal Survivors Fund" Campaign
December 11, 2009
The Humane Society of the United States launched a new advertising campaign to raise $1 million in December 2009 that featured the story of Fay, a pit bull formerly used for fighting that suffered terrible disfigurement. However, HSUS did not actually provide the care for the dog and agreed to donate $5,000 to the local shelter that was fostering the dog only after being criticized. The "Animal Survivors Fund" campaign coincided with an article in TIME magazine that referred to a local animal shelter as simply the "humane society." Extremist Attacks on Global Food Chain Increase 42% in 2008
February 24, 2009
Attacks on the global food chain from animal rights and environmental extremists jumped 42% - from 155 in 2007 to 220 in 2008 - according to Arlington, Virginia-based Animal Agriculture Alliance (Alliance). Worse yet, claimed attacks on food retailers in the USA from groups like the Animal Liberation Front exploded 377%. More.

Animal Rights Extremists Pose an Escalating Risk to Animal Agriculture
AgriTalk - July 10, 2008
In this interview on the July 10, 2008 AgriTalk program, Frankie Trull, President of the Foundation for Biomedical Research, relates that biomedical researchers have been under assault by animal rights terrorists, causing some to discontinue their research into life-saving therapies.
