America's Turkey Farmers Are Committed to Animal Welfare
Activists Use Investigations to Promote Own Agenda
December 30, 2011 - A video released this week by an extreme animal rights group has led to allegations of animal cruelty on a  turkey farm in Hoke County , NC. Viewers of the video should be aware that the vegan organization behind it, Mercy for Animals,  is not truly concerned with issues of animal welfare, but in promoting a radical agenda. November 21, 2011 - A new video released last week by an animal rights and vegan extremist group has charged one of the country's largest egg farms with animal cruelty. It's important that those who watch the video understand that extremist organizations such as Mercy for Animals are not truly focused on improving animal welfare - they will not be satisfied until all meat, milk, and egg production is eliminated. Myths Promoted At "End Factory Farming" Conference
November 17, 2011 - About 300 activists representing the animal rights, environmental, and public health movements converged in Arlington, VA for the first-ever "Conference to End Factory Farming", hosted by Farm Sanctuary and the ASPCA. More than 25 speakers attempted to gain the attention of decision makers in Washington, D.C. with sessions titled "The Hidden Costs of Factory Farming", "Inside the Industry", and "Building Coalitions for Change". The goal of the event? To create synergy between competing activist campaigns and frame their extreme goal of eliminating today's animal agriculture industry as a mainstream effort. More.

Kay Johnson Smith Promoted to President and CEO
November 8, 2011 - On November 2, the Board of Directors of the Animal Agriculture Alliance announced the promotion of Kay Johnson Smith to President and CEO of the non-profit organization. Johnson Smith has served the Alliance since 1994, first as Vice President, and later as Executive Vice President. Previously, Johnson Smith was the Executive Director of the Alliance's predecessor association, the Animal Industry Foundation. More.

Animal Activist Rallies Showcase Continued Pressure on Agriculture
August 18, 2011 - Each summer, animal activists travel across the country to meet and discuss the latest topics of the animal rights movement. This year, animal agriculture was once again the focus. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) hosted its annual Taking Action for Animals Conference in Washington, D.C. on July 15-18, and Farm Animal Rights Movement's Animal Rights 2011 Conference (AR 2011) was held two weeks later, July 21-25 in Los Angeles. Both events claimed to have "record-breaking" attendance, attracting a combined total of more than 1,600 activists from around the world, ranging in age from 20-60 years old. More.

Statement on Voluntary Suspension of Roxarsone
June 8, 2011 - Modern agriculture operations are designed to maximize animal health and production while protecting public health. It is a farmer's highest priority to raise animals for food in a manner that is responsible to the animals, the environment, farm employees, and society. Today the FDA announced that Pfizer Animal Health would be suspending sales of its 3-Nitro (Roxarsone), an organic arsenical product utilized predominantly by broiler chicken farmers to treat coccidiosis, the most common infection in poultry. FDA has assured the public that chicken products are safe to continue eating. More.

February 1, 2011 - The Animal Agriculture Alliance applauds Cargill Meat Solutions for helping consumers understand how food makes it from farm to fork by opening up its facilities to a camera crew from The Oprah Show. The company's Fort Morgan plant manager, Nicole Johnson-Hoffman, represented Cargill, and the entire animal agriculture industry well during the February 1 segment, guiding reporter Lisa Ling through the steps of beef processing- from cow to hamburger.
