The Sheep Care Guide, sponsored by the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI), provides sheep producers with research-based guidelines in such areas as nutrition, facilities and handling, animal health, transportation and managing predation to assist them in providing optimum care for their sheep. Originally published in 1996, the 2005 edition has been updated and expanded to include relevant new research findings regarding animal care. ASI's well-known publication, the Sheep Production Handbook, provides producers a resource of in-depth background information for designing and implementing their specific farm management plans and is frequently used as a classroom textbook at colleges and universities. The ASI Sheep Safety and Quality Assurance Program provides producer-level training and certification in total quality management including proper handling and care of sheep.
